Spinner Defender reaches 1.0 ! Packed all i could :)

So here it is, after quite some time i'm releasing the complete post jam version of Spinner Defender !

It's been quite a journey to get there from the initial GMTK 2019 build, in order to learn as much as possible i wanted to commit to making the post jam game as polished as i could, while retaining the small scope, it's not perfect and still probably has a few bugs but i've playtested quite some time before release, so hopefully everything works fine :p

Waninting to move on to other projects i wanted to pack everything i could to make the 1.0 build when done instead of small updates from 0.9.5 to 1.0 gradually, the game now has a menu system, complete with a small music loop (derivative of the main theme since i didn't want to spend too much time making new music for this game) the 2 levels in the level select now have names ( go try the game out to find them out XD) and winning a stage now has a victory cutscene playing to match up with the defeat cutscene already present.

One "experimental" feature now in is the "mobile mode" with full touchscreen controls which can be toggled on or off from the mentioned option on the main title screen ^^

That's mostly it for what's in the full game, might not be the best but hopefully it's polished enough to be worth a play as a free web game and first release, now i'll be moving on to other projects, maybe go for some more learning before going head first into some other game idea, maybe go participate in some game jams if i can, i'll see.

One last thing is that i want to adress some special thanks to entrants in the GMTK jam 2019 who took time to comment during the jam, and also itch.io users @sztrovacsek, @SpaeriCactus, @DarVacui who comented with helpful feedback post jam to help shape the game till its release :)

Now the changelog for 1.0 as a recap

Changelog v1.0

  • Menu system with explainations on how to play, credits, starting the game, and a toggle option for controls
  • Touchscreen controls for mobile devices, "toggle-able" on or off from the main menu
  • Added derivative music jingles, for menu loops, win condition, lose condition
  •  Added text to specify win or lose condition

Thanks dude :) yep it sure did and it took a while to get there, but here it is XD, hopefully if next GMTK is around the same month as previous i can attend and see if i can put what i learned to good use :p
No problem, like i said you shared your thoughts during development so you helped shape the final version so credit where credit is due, anyway thanks for the support once again , cheers  ! ^^

(1 edit)

It's been a while since I tried Spinner Defender, and the changes you made are excellent, congratulations.
I particularly liked all the graphic and sound improvements and the addition of a new map, although this unfortunately is not different from the original, which could be improved by making one of the two easier, I found the game much more difficult than before .
The menu is simple and easy to navigate, the instructions are concise and clear but sufficient to understand the functioning of the game.

Now the pains begin, I'm sorry but there is still something, little, to improve. The sound addition has been great, but there are still no options to turn it down or turn it off. Better if divided into Music and Effects. After a defeat you cannot restart the level but you are forced to return to the previous window.

At the moment this I noticed, I don't think the game needs too many changes now, especially if you have decided to move to new projects. I am very happy to see you finish Spinner Defenders and I am looking forward to trying your next work.

Thanks for including me in the credits and good luck.

Thanks :) glad you liked the aditions to the game, i know it's not that different from the base game, but i did this to keep the small scope of the project even post jam, i just wanted to learn what i could to reach the most polished state possible to hopefully have all the cards in hand for future projects. Sorry about the sound, i couldn't figure a good way to have proper options for separate volumes and such so i tried balancing everything, i know it's not ideal :(

Also it's normal you got a mention in the credits since you provided some useful post jam feedback ^^

Thanks for taking the time to try out the final build and sharing your thoughts man, cheers ! :)
